It seemed clear to me at that moment, that it was time to close the door on my working career. Let me start at the beginning.
It was a Saturday night; friends and family had come together to celebrate the 40th wedding anniversary of close friends of ours. It was a wonderful evening all-and-all, until I felt a familiar vibration in the pocket of my slacks. The vibrating Blackberry meant only one thing – email; and on weekends, it always seemed to be followed by a corresponding change in my heart rate and respiration.
I pushed aside my tri-color salad to read the email. It was comprised of several inane sentences that said almost nothing and were a complete waste of time, certainly for a Saturday night. If I wasn’t so honked-off I might have felt some pity for the author – who clearly had no life and just wanted the world to know how dedicated they were.
